Handling
Wash thoroughly after handling. Wash hands before eating. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Use with adequate ventilation. Minimize dust generation and accumulation. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Keep container tightly closed. Do not ingest or inhale. Keep from contact with moist air and steam.
Protection
Rubberized gloves; full face shield. Wear special protective clothing and positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus.
Respirators
Follow the OSHA respirator regulations found in 29CFR 1910.134 or European Standard EN 149. Always use a NIOSH or European Standard EN 149 approved respirator when necessary.
Small spills/leaks
Clean up spills immediately, using the appropriate protective equipment. If sweeping is necessary, use a dust suppressant agent. Cover with sand and place into a closed container for disposal. Provide ventilation. Do not get water on spilled substances or inside containers.

Stability
Stable under normal temperatures and pressures.
Incompatibilities
Reacts violently with water, air, acids, alcohols, ethers, and many other compounds with risk of fire and explosion.
Decomposition
Irritating and toxic fumes and gases, hydrogen gas, aluminum oxide, lithium hydroxide, aluminum fumes, lithium hydride.

Fire.
Flash Point,°C

Fire fighting
Do not extinguish fire unless flow can be stopped. Do not use water. Use alcohol foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide. Cool all affected containers with flooding quantities of water. Apply water from as far a distance as possible.
Fire potential
Produce flammable gases on contact with water.
Hazards
Produce flammable gases on contact with water. May ignite on contact with water or moist air. Some react vigorously or explosively on contact with water. May be ignited by heat, sparks or flames. May re-ignite after fire is extinguished. Some are transported in highly flammable liquids. Runoff may create fire or explosion hazard.
Combustion products
Fire will produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases.

Exposure effects
Seizures, coma, tremor, ataxia, and lethargy have been associated with lithium ion intoxication. Malformations and cardiac effects have been observed with lithium ion in therapeutic doses.
   Ingestion
Causes gastrointestinal tract burns.
   Inhalation
Causes chemical burns to the respiratory tract.
   Skin
Causes skin burns.
   Eyes
Causes eye burns.

First aid

   Ingestion
Do NOT induce vomiting. If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid immediately.
   Inhalation
Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure to fresh air immediately. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. DO NOT use mouth-to-mouth respiration. If breathing has ceased apply artificial respiration using oxygen and a suitable mechanical device such as a bag and a mask.
   Skin
Get medical aid immediately. Flush skin with plenty of soap and water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash clothing before reuse. Discard contaminated clothing in a manner which limits further exposure.
   Eyes
Flush with running water for at least 20 minutes.
