Hazards and Protection.
Storage
Keep tightly closed. Store in a cool dry place. Incompatible Materials: Do not allow contact with water
Protection
Wear appropriate government approved respirator, chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, other protective clothing. Faceshield (8-inch minimum).
Respirators
Wear positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Small spills/leaks
Cover with dry lime or soda ash, pick up, keep in a closed container, and hold for waste disposal. Avoid raising dust. Ventilate area and wash spill site after material pickup is complete.
Incompatibilities
Water, Strong acids, Strong bases, Potassium.
Decomposition
Iodine, Hydrogen iodide.

Fire.
Fire fighting
Extinguish using Dry chemical powder. Unsuitable: Do not use water. Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing to prevent contact with skin and eyes.
Fire potential
Non-combustible, substance itself does not burn but may decompose upon heating to produce corrosive and/or toxic fumes.
Hazards
Emits toxic fumes under fire conditions.
Combustion products
Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases.

Exposure effects
Corrosive. Reacts violently with water. Causes burns. Target organ(s): Cardiovascular system. Thyroid.
   Ingestion
See Inhalation.
   Inhalation
TOXIC; inhalation, ingestion, or skin contact with material may cause severe injury or death. Effects of contact or inhalation may be delayed.
   Skin
Contact with molten substance may cause severe burns to skin and eyes. See Inhalation.
   Eyes
See Inhalation.

First aid

   Ingestion
If swallowed, wash out mouth with water provided person is conscious. Call a physician.
   Inhalation
If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen.
   Skin
Remove and isolate contaminated clothing and shoes. Immediately flush with running water for at least 20 minutes. For minor skin contact, avoid spreading material on unaffected skin.
   Eyes
Assure adequate flushing of the eyes by separating the eyelids with fingers.
